Source:Release Time:2018.10.12
According to Fundecitrus' latest announcement, published on September 10, Brazil's 2018/2019 orange crop is 273 million cartons of 40.8 kg, which corresponds to a 5% reduction compared to the estimate published in May 2018. There was a smaller growth of the fruit due to the drought that is more severe than that predicted for the months of May to July, so, this year 270 fruits/box, against 256 fruits/box in May 2018, will be necessary to compose a box of 40.8 kg, because of the climatological expectations of an average of 101 millimeters in the citrus belt, the actual volume of rain accumulated in the winter was 36 millimeters, 73% lower than the historical average.
It is also noted that the current crop advanced for late varieties, as an attempt to avoid fruit diversion, which confirms that the crop will be closed earlier, around the end of December.
In addition, a high fruit drop rate is observed because of the severity of greening and also of fruit peeling cracks, a phenomenon caused by severe drought in the first months and more intense rains in August.
